Position Description:
The University of Texas at El Paso is seeking a full-time, 9-month,
tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor for its Speech-Language
Pathology Program. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring at
both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including an opportunity
to participate in the new Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program. The individual
is expected to maintain an active research agenda, secure extramural
funding and serve on departmental and university committees. Expertise
is preferred in one or more of the following discipline areas: adult
neurogenic communication disorders, voice disorders, or motor speech
disorders. The anticipated appointment date is Fall 2009.
The program in Speech-Language
Pathology is fully accredited and offers an innovative five-year plan
which culminates with the Master of Science Degree. The program is part
of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences (which also includes Occupational

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Communicative
Sciences and Disorders is one of 23 departments and programs within the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences. It
has a three-dimensional mission of teaching, research, and service in speech,
language, and hearing. The Department has approximately 60 undergraduate and 70
graduate majors, four full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty, and two
speech-language pathologists who are responsible for the management of our
Clinic. The Clinic facilities include eleven observable individual and group
therapy rooms, one large group room, an aphasia treatment center, numerous
study areas, a conference room, audiology facilities, and a speech science
laboratory. The Department is certified by ASHA’s Council on Academic
Accreditation in speech-language pathology and is authorized to grant the
Rehabilitative Services Credential approved by the California Commission on

DUTIES
OF THE POSITION:
Teach basic and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in speech-language
pathology, with expertise in any speciality. Supervision of student clinicians
in an established clinical program both on campus and in off-campus settings is
also required. In addition to teaching, all faculty conduct an active program
of research, have advising responsibilities, assist the Department with
administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to assume campus-wide
committee responsibilities. Please note that teaching assignments at California State

Bay include courses at both the Hayward and Concord
campuses.
RANK
AND SALARY: Assistant
Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience,
subject to budgetary authorization.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must possess a doctorate
degree by the effective date of appointment with CCC‑SLP, and eligibility for
the California
license as a speech-language pathologist. Preference will be given to persons with a Ph.D.
in Speech-Language Pathology and a strong interest/background in the clinical
supervisory process. Teaching experience
and an interest in sustained research and grant writing is highly preferred. Demonstrated
ability to teach, advise and mentor students from diverse educational and
cultural backgrounds.To be
recommended for tenure the candidate must demonstrate satisfactory performance
in the areas of teaching; research, scholarship, and/or creative activities;
and service to the university, the department, the profession, and the
community.
